Syncopation: A Quick Primer

So much of the music we encounter in popular styles is written with syncopated rhythm, and our students play these rhythms on a fairly consistent basis. But how do you explain the concept of syncopation to a young student? This video by Gregg Fine lays out the basics framed with easy-to-understand language and really clear visual examples:
